Stephen Keshi will reclaim his job as coach of the Super Eagles as soon as possible if reports making the rounds are anything to go by.
Though there has not been any official confirmation from the Nigeria Football Federation, a person close to the situation told naijafootball247.com that the presidency instructed Amaju Pinnick to bring back Keshi as coach of the team.
The presidency had waded into the dispute between Chris Giwa and Amaju Pinnick over who heads the Federation and it seems Keshi’s return was part of the negotiation.
“Giwa had always been against the treatment meted out to Keshi after winning the AFCON and qualifying Nigeria for the World Cup,” the source told naijafootball247.com.
“He felt a coach cannot suddenly become clueless because of a few poor results so that was part of his bargain with the president to return Keshi as coach of the Super Eagles.”
Our source continued that Chris Giwa would not have sacked Keshi if he was confirmed as NFF president so he put it in as part of his condition to withdraw the case in court.
After Keshi’s contract expired at the FIFA World Cup Brazil in July, the Aminu Maigari led board refused to renew his contract but intervention from the Sports minister, Tammy Danagogo saw the embattled coach return for the Eagles last four AFCON qualifiers before the Amaju Pinnick led board eventually sent him away two weeks ago.
Shaibu Amodu was appointed Super Eagles coach for just two games against Congo and South Africa pending the appointment of a foreign coach for the Eagles.
