LBA: Mfon Udoh gets car from League Bloggers

Enyimba FC striker, Mfon Udoh is still in cloud 9 after emerging best player in the Nigeria Premier League according to organizers of the League Bloggers Awards.

He has also just received his brand new Kia Rio car given by Sports Betting Company, 1960 Bet, Title Sponsors of the League Bloggers Awards.

Mfon Udoh warded off stiff opposition from Dolphins FC striker, Emem Eduok, Peter Ebimobowei of Bayelsa United and his team mate, Kingsley Sokari of Enyimba.

After winning the award on Monday, December 15, 2014, logistics and other matters ensured Udoh did not get his until two full weeks later, but he doesn't mind.

Mfon described it as the icing on the cake for a glorious year he has had this term.

“I am very elated that my efforts this season have finally been recognized and it will just spur me to do much more than before,” Udoh said.

“I also thank the organisers of the League Bloggers Awards for remembering those of us who play in the home league and ask that God continue to bless their efforts,”

The 3rd edition of the end of year, League Bloggers Awards held at the prestigious Sheraton Hotels and Towers on Monday, December 15, 2014, but Mfon Udoh was not the only winner on the night.

FAIR PLAY AWARD

Heartland FC won the fair play award beating the likes of Rangers International, NAsarawa FC and Crown to the title.

According to Chief Executive Officer of the LBA, Aikhoje Ojekere, “The Heartland team had a poor start this season not finding a win in their first nine games.

“There was no recorded incidence of fans violence or an attack on their on coaches or players and knowing what happens in the Nigerian League this was big,” Ojekere said.


BEST USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

The  Best Use of Social Media Award went to Enyimba FC. Other nominated clubs were Dolphins FC, Lobi Stars FC and Sharks FC.


BEST CLUB WEBSITE

The Best website award went to Enyimba FC’s www.enyimbafc.net.

Enyimba beat Abia Warriors FC, www.abiawarriors.com and Kano Pillars, www.Kanopillars .com to the title.


BEST DESIGNED JERSEY

Dolphins’ Green and White horizontal stripped Nomis designed jersey was picked as the Best Designed Jersey.

Other nominated clubs for this category were Lobi Stars (Iwu), Enyimba (Joma) and Gombe United.


BEST NEW GOALKEEPER

Heartland’s young goalkeeper, Emmanuel Iwu was picked as Best New Goalkeeper ahead of Ifeanyi Agu – Nembe City, Joseph Onuoha – Abia Warriors and Chinedu Anozie – Abia Warriors.

Iwu, an 18 year old made his Heartland debut against Enyimba in Owerri this year, when first choice keeper, Ebere Obi got injured. Heartland won that game by 1-0.

He then featured a week later in Kano against Kano Pillars and the game ended 1-1.

He went on to play more regularly for Heartland this past season, eventually winning the award.


BEST DRAFT FROM DEVELOPMENT TEAM


This one was won by Dickson Eche Idakwo of Lobi Stars.

Idakwo was signed on by Lobi Stars youth team and after their first game in the Nigeria National League, he was drafted to the first team and played for Lobi Stars against Crown in their first game of the season.

He went on to play three thirds of games by Lobi Stars this season.

“I have played against Idakwo before and I tell you he is a tough player and one that will go far if he keeps his head,” Mfon Udoh told naijafootball247.com.


BEST DEVELOPMENT TEAM

This award was won by Lobi Stars Juniors as they beat  Enyimba Feeders (Division One), Rising Stars (Division One) and El-Kanemi Babes (Division Two) to it.


ROOKIE OF THE SEASON

Chisom Chikatara was given the award for rookie of the season, beating off, Eche Idakwo of Lobi Stars, Kufre Ebong of Akwa United and Baturer Yero of NAsarawa United.

Chisom Chikatara, who used to sell Kolanuts on the streets of Umuahia soon got into football and signed for Abia Warriors, turning out star performances this season.


BEST GOALKEEPER

The Best goalkeeper vote went to Theophilus Afelokhai of Kano Pillars as he edged out Leke Ojo – Giwa, Femi Thomas – Enyimba, and Dele Ajiboye – Nasarawa United



BEST FOREIGNER

The best foreign player in the League award went to Tamen Mendrano, the Cameroonian born midfielder with Sunshine Stars.

Incidentally, Mendrano won the award in 2012.

He beat Zoumane Doumbia (Mali) – Heartland, Pape Ousmane (Senegal) – Enugu Rangers and Saibou Badarou (Togo)  - Heartland


BEST PROMOTED TEAM

Giwa FC was the best promoted team in the league, obviously by their final placing on the table


CLUB OF THE YEAR

Club of the year award went to Kano Pillars, while Okey Emordi of same club got the Manager of the year honour.

Emordi beat Paul Aigbogun – Warri Wolves, Baba Ganaru -  Nasarawa United and  Ladan Bosso – Abia Warriors.



BEST NATIONAL TEAM PLAYER

The honour for best national team player in the league went to Gbolahan Salami and he was closely followed by Azubuike Egwuekwe, Emem Eduok and Solomon Kwambe


HIGHEST GOAL SCORER

Mfon Udoh of Enyimba’s 23 goals certainly made him the highest goal scorer and there was no contention here.

National Team Duties

Next for Mfon Udoh is to impress the National team coaches as he has been called to camp for two friendly matches against the Ivory Coast and Sudan next week.
